Are Holiday Lodges the New Craze?

If you have attempted to book a UK staycation this year, you will already know that holiday accommodation has been getting booked up quickly, particularly throughout the summer. The foreign travel restrictions, quarantine and testing rules combined with the constant changing of green, amber and red statuses has resulted in record numbers of Brits choosing to holiday in the UK this year.

Despite the success of the vaccination programme in the UK, travel experts are predicting that many UK holidaymakers who would usually holiday abroad will choose a UK destination instead. The fears regarding new COVID-19 variants, plus the desire to avoid crowded spaces will put many would-be travellers off, at least until the pandemic is over.

All of these factors point towards there being a very high demand for UK holiday accommodation, not just for 2021 but for at least several years until the majority of people feel safer travelling abroad. Despite not going abroad, people still want to get away from their usual routine and life to recharge their batteries, which has seen an uplift in holiday bookings for all types of UK holidays.

Coastal holidays in places like Cornwall and Devon have been extremely popular, while a lot of families are looking for outdoor activity-filled holidays in places like the Lake District and Scotland. Even remote areas without many tourist attractions are getting booked up, with people keen to explore parts of the UK they have never visited before. As well as bookings getting filled up easily, the staycation prices have increased significantly, providing holiday accommodation owners with record profits.

Investors are taking advantage of the demand for holiday lodge accommodation

The Financial Times recently revealed that 1,401 holiday let companies were incorporated in the first half of 2021, an increase of 83% on 2020, and 119% on 2019. In the article, they also shared that there has been a noticeable shift regarding the number of buy-to-let landlords switching their investment strategy over to holiday let purchases. Landlords are instead turning their attentions to the lucrative, short-term profits of holiday lets compared to the more modest rent yields of long-term tenants.

If you are looking for a lucrative type of property investment, then holiday accommodation is certainly a strategy to consider. As you can see from the high numbers of investors that are now focusing on holiday accommodation, this is a new investment craze that has the potential to be incredibly lucrative.
